(+ 25 Thank You Messages to Copy for Your Handmade or Small Business)

When I was in the business of selling physical products, packing each order was an entire experience. I would play a comforting playlist and have my cats oversee the process from the corner of my desk (their primary role, naturally, was to sit in every empty box).
I’d wrap each order carefully, with tissue paper, ribbons, and a hand-written note, because I always believed the customer experience mattered as much as the product. The first moment someone holds your creation, opens it, smells the paper, or unfolds a thank-you card… that’s where the magic happens.
Create a Customer Experience: The packaging is part of your brand
If your customer experience were a movie, the unboxing would be the most emotional scene.
It’s your chance to communicate your brand’s personality without saying a word.
Think of it this way:
The box is your stage.
The wrapping is your aesthetic.
The note is your voice.
Whether you’re sending out candles, cups, prints, or handmade stationery, your packaging tells people who you are before they even see the product.
Ask yourself: Does my package feel like me?
The emotional side of packaging
People don’t keep boxes; they keep memories.
A beautiful unboxing creates a story your customer will remember. It says:
“This wasn’t mass-produced. It was made for you.”
Here’s what a thoughtful unboxing can do:
Build emotional connection: customers feel like they know you.
Create shareable moments: they’ll post it, tag you, and share your story.
Increase repeat sales: people return for how you made them feel.
Strengthen your brand identity: you become unforgettable.
Practical tips for creating a gift-like experience
1. Choose materials that match your vibe.
Soft tissue, twine, ribbons, kraft paper, or pink boxes, it’s all part of your story.
2. Include a thank-you note (always!).
It’s the most personal moment of the entire unboxing.
3. Add a little surprise.
A sticker, a postcard, a mini print, or even a small discount code for next time.
4. Think multi-sensory.
The texture, the scent, the sound, those details trigger emotion.
5. Be consistent.
Use the same colors, fonts, and tone across your packaging and thank-you cards.
You’re building recognition every time someone opens your box.
Barbie’s go-to packaging resources 🎀
One of my favorite parts of running a handmade business was hunting for the perfect packaging details.
If you’re ready to elevate your presentation, here are some tried-and-true places I used for my own orders:
Note: none of these brands sponsors me, and I don’t earn commissions from them; these are simply resources that truly worked for me and that I still recommend. The only exception is Amazon, where I share affiliate links to my Storefront, because many of you asked for direct links to the products I used.
VistaPrint
Perfect for printing your thank-you cards, business cards, branded inserts, and mini flyers.
They often have bundle discounts and templates that make it easy to keep your branding consistent.
Zazzle
I used Zazzle to create custom stamps with my brand logo — ideal for sealing boxes or envelopes beautifully without the need for stickers.
Sticker Mule
An absolute favorite for custom mailers, logo stickers, and branded packaging.
They’re durable, waterproof, and feel premium — a small detail that adds a big impression.
Amazon
The go-to for boxes, bubble mailers, tissue paper, and cute thank-you stickers.
I used to buy everything from pink poly mailers to white cardboard boxes — affordable and quick shipping options.

Lifestyle & inspiration
Even today, when I see creators wrapping their orders, I feel that familiar warmth. There’s something sacred about slowing down to add the final touch, a sticker, a note, a ribbon.
That’s the moment you transfer your energy into what you made.
If you think about it, packaging is a love language. It says, “I care.” And your customers can feel it the second they open the box.

This post brilliantly captures how packaging isn’t just functional, but emotional. Crafting an experience that feels like a thoughtful gift truly deepens customer connection. By embracing premium touches and attention to detail—even for unconventional products—I can see brands using custom weed bags to evoke that same warm, generous feeling memorable.
